If innovation is the spirit of change in technology,
then the appearance of the iPhone changed the destiny of the mobile. Apple took the touchscreen technology, which had not been properly implemented
and put it to work in the iPhone 3G, making it the first smartphone that used the touchscreen dynamic correctly. Up until that time, it appeared as if no one really knew what to do with the
touchscreen. Even though it was implemented in one or two mobiles, the stylus was still the main attraction and the touchscreen was treated as a burdensome stepchild component. Apple changed all of that.
The introduction of the iPhone 3G evolutionised the
mobile. I use the word evolutionised instead of revolutionised because of the change of the form, shape and size, and the technics within the
mobile were so serious, that the mobile as phone, was no longer recognisable. Today, it is practically unthinkable to find a mobile phone that does not offer the touchscreen or which does
not have a similar shape and form to the iPhone or does not have 3G or WiFi or both and that is what I consider evolution, the beginning of a whole new era in the mobile phone.
So, what did Apple do with the iPhone, besides turning
the world upside down? The answer is that they stepped up as the first to have a smartphone that could do almost everything and the mobile
industry is still trying to catch up with them. Their being first in the market, has made them the target for every manufacturer of mobile
phones.
Have you not noticed that Apple is not coming out with
different types of smartphones? They do not have to. The iPhone speaks for itself. It is one of a kind. Its design has been practically imitated by everyone who wants to jump on the
bandwagon.
What makes the iPhone so special is, that it was the first phone that combined entertainment by listening to music, photography by taking pictures, internet access through 3G or Wi Fi, emails, text messaging, video, and other 3rd party apps to it, that could function on one device at the same time. No one had brought out such a device and it became the hit runner.
However, Apple did not stop with the iPhone 3G. Innovation never stops moving. That is one of its basic characteristics and so Apple has kept implementing new innovative techniques. The iPhone 3GS superseded the iPhone 3G and was equipped with the video technique that was not found in the first version of the iPhone.
In 2010, the unveiling of the iPhone 4 brought
astounding changes. Even though, there appeared to be a defect with the reception during telephone calls, it did not stop the iPhone 4 from topping
the charts.
Shortly before the founder's death, the release of the
iPhone 4S was revealed publicly. It is an excellent phone and follows the pattern of incorporating new innovative technology. Siri is
introduced.
But the crowning moment is yet to come. Everyone is waiting with high expectations for the iPhone 5. The question is, will it shake the world?
The iPhone 3G was the stepping stone for the iPhone 3GS; the iPhone 3GS became the stepping stone for the iPhone 4; the iPhone 4 was the forerunner for the iPhone 4S and it is expected that the iPhone 5 will present itself in a remarkable way, with innovations that have not yet been introduced.
So get ready everyone, the question of whether or not the iPhone can maintain its number one status of being the first, will be answered at the revealing of the iPhone 5 and that is a day, we are all looking forward to.
